Scripture Union Daily Guide 9 August 2024 Outline:
Dealing with the sin of Ananias and Sapphira in the early church had such a great effect on the community that people were afraid to join them. Many more believed and there was an explosion of miracles to the extent that Peter’s shadow had healing power and brought about miracles (vs.13-16).
God is indeed a God of miracles and if we come to Him in faith, we also can live a life of miracles.
As the church grew (v.14), notice how opposition increased from Jewish leaders (vs.17-18). The proclamation of Jesus is inevitably linked to persecution in some form. The growing number of persecuted Christians around the world testifies to this.
Despite hardships and trials, the children of God are assured of the Lord’s presence and his care (v.19). How does this encourage us to share the gospel boldly? Notice that the apostles were freed from prison for a purpose (v.20). They faithfully obeyed God’s instructions as soon as the day dawned (v.21a). What a remarkable boldness! How do we compare our zeal for God to these devoted servants of God?
Practice/Word Application
Thought: Do you know that the same power given to the Apostles is still available to us today. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
